As I wrapped my hands around the brown package, ready to open it, my mobile phone rang. It was still in my jeans’ pocket so I pulled it out and answered without thinking.
“We know who you are,” a man’s voice said.
“Who is this?” My first reaction was to hang up, but my hand refused to move.
The stranger’s tone sent a shiver down my spine.“Now that we’ve found you, it’s just a matter of reeling you in. We need to stop your evil intentions before it’s too late.”
I didn’t recognize the eerie voice.“Who is this? If Henry hired you to scare me back into his arms, it’s not gonna work. I told him it was done months ago, so tell your little friend we’re over. Done, finito! Got it?”
I removed the phone from my ear and snapped it shut. The nerve of some people! Now he was getting others to try and scare me, in hopes that I’ll run back into his arms in fear. Well, if he kept it up, I was going to go to the cops. I didn’t have to put up with this crap.
The mobile rang again and my fingers itched to answer it, though my head debated the decision. In the end, the fingers won because usually when I’ve got a smart thing in my head, well, I ignore it. “Listen, if you don’t leave me alone I’m gonna call the cops and put a restraining order against you, do you hear me?”
